ADR REGULATIONS

If it is carried in approved 20-liter containers, how many containers can be transported in a private vehicle?

It is necessary to know if the fuel will be used for private and domestic use and is packaged at retail, since transport by private individuals, under these conditions, will be totally exempt from complying with the ADR.

If the fuel is not for private use, first of all it is necessary to know if the transport of the fuel is carried out as a complementary activity to the main activity, or if it is carried out on a regular basis for supply or distribution.

If the company is engaged in an activity other than the transport or distribution of goods, the transport could be totally exempt if:
-No container exceeds 450 liters (It complies because they are 20-liter containers).
-The total limits established by the ADR are not exceeded, which for diesel is 1,000 liters and for gasoline 333 liters.

If it is not possible to take advantage of the above exemptions and the above mentioned quantities are not exceeded per vehicle (diesel oil is 1,000 liters and for gasoline 333 liters), the exemption can be taken advantage of by 1.1.3.6, which requires that: – The 20-liter containers must have a capacity of 20 liters:

20 liter containers must:

  • Be homologated
  • Bear the hazard label (rhombus, class 3)
  • Marked with the UN number, preceded by the letters “UN”, for example: gasoline (UN 1203), diesel oil (UN 1202).
  • Correctly fastened, so that they do not move during transport.

In addition:
The dangerous goods consignment note, showing the total quantities per transport category, must be issued and carried on board the vehicle. In addition, the vehicle must carry a fire extinguisher of at least 2 kg.
