The WHO recommends to the population, as basic protective measures, to adopt safety measures as fundamental as safety gloves. With these gloves made entirely of nitrile, you can work safely and without unnecessary risks.

Nitrile synthetic rubber, good resistance to oils, lubricants and petroleum products. Resistant to chemicals, acids and non-ketonic solvents. For optimum protection against infection, the first step is adequate protection.

REGULATIONS

UNE-EN 420:2004

The UNE-EN 420:2004 standard is a reference standard to be used with specific standards related or applicable to protective gloves. This means that this standard cannot be applied on its own to certify or self-certify protective gloves.

The standard defines requirements for glove construction and design, safety, resistance of materials to water penetration, safety (pH and Chromium VI content), comfort and efficacy, marking and information supplied by the manufacturer. It is also applicable to gloves and arm protectors permanently attached to watertight suits.

Each protective glove shall be marked with the following information:

  • Name, trademark or other means of identification of the manufacturer or its authorized representative.
  • Glove designation (trade name or code that allows the user to identify the product with the range of the manufacturer or its authorized representative).
  • Size designation.
  • If necessary, marking relative to the expiration date.
  • When the glove complies with one or more European standards, the pictogram appropriate to the standard. Each pictogram must be accompanied by the reference to the specific applicable standard and the performance levels, which must always be in the same fixed sequence as defined in the relevant standard.

 

UNE-EN 374:2016

ISO EN 374:2016 establishes requirements for gloves intended to protect the user against chemicals and/or microorganisms. This standard does not establish mechanical protection requirements. All gloves are category 3.

It is divided into the following parts:

  • ISO EN 374-1:2016: Terminology and requirements for chemical hazards.
  • EN 374-2:2014: Determination of penetration resistance.
  • EN 16523-1:2015: Permeation by liquid chemicals under continuous contact conditions.
  • EN 374-4:2013: Determination of resistance to chemical degradation.
  • ISO EN 374-5:2016: Terminology and requirements for micro-organism risks.

Gloves are divided into three types:

  • Type A: those that have been tested to the permeation of 6 chemicals from the table and have a minimum level 2.
  • Type B: those that have been tested to the permeation of 3 chemical products of the table and have a minimum level 2.
  • Type C: those that have been tested to the permeation of 1 chemical from the table and have a minimum level 1.

 

TEST METHODS

  • Penetration test 374-2

It is the breakthrough of chemicals through the material, seams of the glove at the non-molecular level.

Air leakage test. The glove is inflated with air and immersed in water. Check for air bubbles within 30′.

Water leakage test. The glove is filled with water and checked for water droplets.

If these tests are positive, the pictogram is displayed

  • EN 374-4 degradation test

Degradation of some of the properties of the glove due to contact with a chemical product. E.g.: discoloration, hardening, softening, etc.

• Permeation test EN 16523-1

It is the breakthrough of chemicals at the molecular level. The resistance of a glove material to permeation by a chemical is determined by measuring the passage time of the chemical through the material.

  • Micro-organism protection gloves offer protection against bacteria and fungi when complying with EN 374-2 (air leakage and water leakage).
  • Gloves that also offer protection against viruses must comply with ISO 16604: protection against penetration by blood-borne Phi-X174 bacteriophages.
